‘So You Think You Can Dance’: The Best And Worst Dances From The Final Four

After an unorthodox season, our final four dancers remain: AdeChike, Lauren, Kent, and Robert. After seeing last night’s competition show, we have no idea who will be going home. At this stage in the game, the group has been whiddled down to only the best, strongest, and most beloved dancers from this season. Click below for the best and worst dances and why for the first time ever, we named Kent last night’s worst dancer. And see which judge proposed last night on national television.

The Best: Just as we’re sure will be said next Thursday night, when Nigel Lythgoe announces that for the first time in SYTYCD history that the title of America’s Favorite Dancer will be shared between Kent and Lauren; so too was our decision of last night’s best performance.

Kent and All-Star Neil’s contemporary routine to Dvotchka’s “How It Ends” (choreographed by Travis Wall). Did this remind anyone else of the final episodes of Lost?

Would this dance have felt this powerful if Kent had been partnered with another All-Star that didn’t resemble him as much (Marc, AdeChike, Lauren)? We’ll never know. We still think Kent looked a bit worn out here, but an amazing routine nonetheless.

And Lauren’s strong and sexy tango with All-Star Pasha

The Worst: Kent with All-Star Courtney’s disco routine to Kelly Rowland’s “When Love Takes Over”, choreographed by Doriana Sanchez

We can’t believe we’re saying this, but we’re gonna have to agree with Mia’s ruling last night when she called this Kent’s “worst performance this season”. However, we don’t think it had anything to do with the boy wonder’s “child-like” charms. Last night, Kent just seemed…tired. That’s part of why he kept dropping Courtney in rehearsal and why it looked as though he was going to drop his lovely All-Star partner in almost every lift. Perhaps the Boyd-ster was under the weather or perhaps he has simply danced his heart out one too many times for us this season. We know Kent isn’t going anywhere tonight. He’s build up a following strong relationship with the audience, but still we hope he gets some much needed rest before next week.

Runner Up: Tyce Diorio’s Broadway group routine to Guys And Dolls‘s instrumental number The Crapshooters Dance”. It’s not that this dance was bad by any means, but if by the end of the show you’ve completely forgotten that it was even performed it’s just not good enough to stick in your brain. We wish we could say the same for Tyce’s self-indulgent, long winded and annoying critique’s last night in the “fourth chair”.

Like we said before, at this stage in the game it’s hard to pick apart the good from the bad because all four contestants are such amazing dancers. Here are the other dance highlights from last night’s compeition show:

As NappyTabs hinted in their interview with us, we saw the beginnings of a new blend of broadway/comedy hip-hop with their “Angry Clown” routine (danced by Robert and All-Star Dominic). We love that even after 3 seasons on SYTYCD, Tabitha and Napoleon can still showcase something we’ve NEVER seen before.

There was also Lauren Froderman‘s “Black Widow” Jazz number with All-Star Ade (proving that some outfits—like lace bodysuits—should only be worn by professional dancers).

AdeChike got to work with his lifelong idol, Desmond Richardson, for a Contemporary routine. The concept (as we understood it) was a look back at Season 7 for AdeChike. Also, a show of hands, who cried during AdeChike’s package about how hard it was growing up a male dancer?

As for the marriage proposal, Adam Shankman (aka The Crying Judge) announced that California’s Proposition 8 (which made gay marriage illegal) had been named unconstitutional. Then he proposed to fellow judge, Nigel Lythgoe. As far as proposals go, it was pretty unromantic. Adam didn’t even get down on one knee!

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT: “I’m just not big” Which is how Kent Boyd explained why it looked like he was about to drop Courtney in his disco routine. We just wanted to pinch his cute little cheeks and give him a hug.

Who will be going home tonight? We think it’s between Robert and AdeChike, but it’s too close to call—both gave strong, commanding performances last night. Then again, stranger things have happened this season. Tell us what you think below!
