Jazmine Sullivan Faces Issues With Tissues In “Holding You Down (Goin’ in Circles)”

Jazmine Sullivan has no reason to cry. The Philadelphia R&B singer certainly isn’t weeping over her loss in the Best New Artist category at the Grammy Awards two years ago (though plenty of fans still think she was robbed). But she is still shedding a few tears over her man in her scorching R&B hit “Holding You Down”. Watch her soulful throwback video — which features her mentor Missy Elliott and Doug E. Fresh and Pepa from Salt-n-Pepa(!) — and throw those tissues away.

Directed by Marcus Raboy, the clip follows Jazmine as she wrestles with the pain caused by a cheating partner — though it manages to sneak in one of the best party scenes we’ve seen in forever.

Jazmine Sullivan — “Holding You Down (Goin’ In Circles):

It’s easy to see why Jazmine often attracts comparisons to Lauryn Hill, with her rich, expressive voice and vintage vibe. Jazmine’s forthcoming Love Me Back LP is likely to be as close as we come to a 90s-style R&B album this year, so don’t sleep on it.

And now Jazmine’s the one making us weep (with joy): she announced a tour with Mary J. Blige. Check Mary on the “Holding You Down” remix at Rap-Up.
