Jared Evan Professes His Undying Affection In “I’m In Love With You”

We can’t decide if 21-year-old Jared Evan is a rapper, blue-eyed soul singer or rock drummer. and we don’t have to, because the kid plans to do it all. Each verse on his debut single “I’m In Love With You” nods to one of the styles or eras that influenced him (70s rock, 90s grunge and more or less current-day hip-hop). Produced by the very busy Polow Da Don, this one starts like it was shot out of a cannon and just keeps going. Catch the video for “I’m In Love With You” below.

Jared has cited everyone from Keith Moon to Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man as influences (he must be thrilled to hear Raekwon’s collabo with Justin Bieber). Somehow, he’s distilled all of that into a sound that, to us, evokes a Lenny Kravitz-style rock-soul hybrid.

Already tipped by Popeater as a key artist to watch, Jared explains the inspiration behind the tune: “I was feeling something with a specific girl in a situation, and I wrote about it. I’d say ‘Love With You’  is like probably the broadest one. Every girl just drives me crazy. A lot of the other songs are more like, put your headphones on and listen to what I’m really saying.” And by headphones, the NY singer probably means Beats by Dr. Dre, the very ones he sports in “In Love With You”. The new vid was directed by Bernard Gourley.
