Taylor Swift Has ‘Billboard’ Covered

With just one more week to go before the release of Taylor Swift’s Speak Now album, the country-pop Glamour girl appears on the cover of the latest issue of Billboard. In the accompanying feature, the publication notes that Taylor wrote every track on the album—which at one point had an entirely different title! Steve Borchetta, the president of Taylor’s label Big Machine, talked to Billboard about her latest LP’s former title. “It was called Enchanted, ” Borchetta said. “We were at lunch, and she had played me a bunch of the new songs. I looked at her and I’m like, ‘Taylor, this record isn’t about fairy tales and high school anymore. That’s not where you’re at. I don’t think the record should be called Enchanted.”

Ouch! She probably hasn’t had an eye opener like that since the 2009 MTV VMAs. (And, yes, the piece goes into the whole Kanye thing.) Billboard also points out that despite declining sales of albums in the music industry, Swift’s 2008 effort Fearless went multi-Platinum. As you might imagine, expectations are probably a bit high for Speak Now to repeat that success.

“I have a lot of anxiety about things on certain days, but I have anxiety because I care,” said Taylor . “It’s not anxiety that’s crippling. It’s a five-minute conversation with myself about if a [sales] number really defines this piece of art that I’ve created and what that means, and what the number’s going to be. I try to predict what it’s going to be, and then I realize that I can’t predict what it’s going to be, and then I sit there and say something to myself like, ‘Well, you’re happy today. Enjoy this and be proud of the music that you’ve made.'”

That’s the spirit, girl! So, have you been proud of the recent music that she’s made? Swift has been releasing a new promo single each week leading up to Speak Now‘s drop date. Check out the LP’s title track and her mature tearjerker “Back To December.”
