Around this time last year, Leighton Meester, Pop Star, seemed like a sure thing — she was headlining New Years Eve gigs, collaborating with Lil Wayne, and her debut single, “Somebody To Love“, was getting some massive airplay (and even nabbed a slot on the Valentine’s Day soundtrack). Meester’s buzz as a singer has surprisingly quieted down the past few months, but we’ll see if interest in the Gossip Girl star rises once again when people hear her deliver some tunes in Country Strong (aka the reason why Gwyneth Paltrow is everywhere nowadays). Listen to Leighton sing “Give Into Me” with Garrett Hedlund below.

Leighton Meester & Garrett Hedlund — “Give Into Me”

She’s got a very pretty, fragile voice, but since “Give Into Me” isn’t exactly the most challenging song, there’s not much here to impress us. That said, she still sounds better than Taylor Swift did during the AMAs.

Leighton also recorded a cover of “Words I Couldn’t Say” by Rascal Flatts for the film’s soundtrack — listen to it here.

Do you like Meester doing her best June Carter, or do you prefer her sexy and sultry as a dance-pop artist? Or should she just stick to being Blair Waldorf?
