Susan Boyle Returns To #1 As The Black Eyed Peas Have A Lackluster Debut

With Susan Boyle’s The Gift returning to the #1 position on the Billboard Top 200 chart on the strength of 272,000 copies sold, Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy takes a tumble in its second week. More surprising is the fact that The Black Eyed Peas’ latest, The Beginning, fails to make much of a dent in the Top 10. Where’s the boom boom pow, BEP? The Peas’ The Beginning, which contains current single “The Time (Dirty Bit)”, enters the chart at #6 this week after selling 119,000—far lower than the 304,000 sum The E.N.D. moved in 2009 when it debuted at #1.

Was it too much to ask for the band’s fans and music buyers alike to be satisfied with a heavily Auto-Tuned re-imagining of Dirty Dancing tune “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life” as the lead single?

Debuting just above BEP, at #5, is the fourth volume of Glee: The Music (128,000). Meanwhile, the Glee Christmas album rises to #4 and will likely hang around through next week’s chart thanks to the holiday episode of the series airing last night.
