Jessie J Is The BBC’s ‘Sound Of 2011’
Jessie J’s rising star got an extra boost last week when she landed at the top of the BBC’s Sound Of 2011 roundup, which highlights the year’s most promising new artists in the UK. To celebrate, the singer (real name: Jessie Cornish) gave a special performance of songs “Do It Like A Dude”, “Who You Are” and “Big White Room” for the broadcasting company. “It’s weird seeing my name on things like Sound Of 2011,” Jessie said in a BBC interview. “Every year for the last six years I’m like, next year’s my year. But I can actually say now that it’s starting to happen.”
The 22-year-old songstress, who will also be the recipient of the Critics’ Choice Award at next month’s Brit Awards, is due to release her debut LP Who You Are at some point this year. In the meantime, her debut single “Do It Like A Dude” climbed to #5 this week on the UK chart.
