Last night we were introduced to 23-year old John Wayne Schulz, the cowboy from Austin with a voice of pure buttermilk. But auditioning for American Idol isn’t his first stab at entering the music biz: as discovered today, Schulz independently released an album at the tender age of 14, called Ropin’ Dreams. According to Amazon (it’s no longer available, sniffle), songs included “Put a Little Love in That Hurt”, “Texas Man”, “Playboy”, “I Couldn’t Care More”, and “Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time”. All pretty standard (and hilarious) country-western song titles, but may we repeat: he was 14 years old when he recorded a song called “Playboy”. [Billboard]
