Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” Set To Be The Hot 100 Chart’s 1000th #1 Single

Less than a week ago we wondered who would secure the historic 1000th chart-topping single on the Billboard Hot 100—and now we have our answer! Lady Gaga is pretty much locked in after selling an estimated 450,000 digital downloads of “Born This Way” in a mere two days—between Friday and Sunday—reports Billboard.

If that sales figure holds, it would put Gaga behind only Flo Rida’s “Right Round” and “Low,” and the Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow,” for the best debut weeks in the digital age. Of course, those singles had a full week to accrue their sales. Gaga did it in only 48 hours. This would also give Lady Gaga the title of having the best debut week for a single by a female solo artist.

The Grammy-winning singer previously topped the Hot 100 twice, with “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.” “Born This Way” is set to become only the 19th single in Billboard Hot 100 history to enter the chart at the top spot.

“BORN THIS WAY IS #1 ON BILLBOARD HOT 100! THANK YOU, I’m overwhelmed by your support,” Gaga tweeted yesterday.

The publication also notes that “Born This Way” has debuted at #14 on the Pop Songs chart, which tracks radio spins. It’s the second-highest debut in that roundup’s history. (Only Mariah Carey’s “Dreamlover” debuted higher, at #12 in 1993.)

If you ask us, it makes perfect symbolic sense that Lady Gaga, arguably the biggest pop star on the planet right now, should clinch such a milestone chart achievement as having the 1000th #1 single.
