The Show Goes On For Lupe Fiasco On ‘Lopez Tonight’

Lupe Fiasco not only said he feels an amount of hate for Lasers, his much-troubled new release, in a recent interview, but he also talked disparagingly about his Kane Beatz-produced single “The Show Goes On”: “There’s nothing really to tell about that record, to be honest. I didn’t have nothing to do with that record. That was the label’s record.” Still, Lupe performed the song on Lopez Tonight last night, and Lasers is heading for a #1 debut. Watch the MC’s performance below. Fiasco elaborated on his feelings for “The Show Goes On” in Complex:

“That was one of those records the record company gave me, [they even gave me] stuff they wanted me to rap about. It wasn’t like, ‘Hey I did this and I went to a mountain and found inspiration and it was this.’… I was used to it because they presented me like ten other songs in the same fashion or via email. So for me, at that point, it was just another record like, ‘Is this a song you want me to do?’ There was nothing special about it for me at that point.”

Here he is performing the jam on Lopez Tonight:

Today Billboard reports that Lasers might sell anywhere between 190,000 and 220,000 copies by the time next week’s chart is tallied up (though the publication also notes that some in the industry are predicting sales of as much as 240,000).

Only Adele’s 21, which is currently the best-selling album of the year, has had a better opening week in 2011. So cheer up and dash away those thoughts of suicide already, Lupe!
