We may be shocked that Pia Toscano got booted from American Idol so early (and apparently was everyone on Twitter), but the 22-year old New Yorker isn’t all that surprised she was eliminated. “I go a lot on feeling and what’s in my gut,” she told E! Online. “After my performance I felt something weird. I said to my parents, ‘I kind of feel like I’m going to be in the bottom three tomorrow.’ When it happened I kind of expected it.” More of Pia’s reactions below.

“Usually when I feel something, it happens,” she continues. “I had a good time at my performance, I don’t have any regrets so I don’t know why I felt that way.”

In regards to the judges’ save being used on Casey Abrams a few weeks prior, Pia doesn’t think the judges should have held onto it longer. “It was my time and Casey deserved that save. He wasn’t ready to go and it wasn’t his time to go,” she said. “He’s such an incredible musician and an incredible singer and beautiful person.”

Toscano told Entertainment Weekly in a backstage interview after the show, “I was okay with that because everything happens for a reason. You just have to stay up about it and know that there’s amazing things to come.”

“I have lots of amazing memories,” she added. “The people that I met, [and] doing things that I didn’t think I could do. Every single one of [the contestants] is just the most classy, standout person.”

Pia also reveals that had she survived on the show til next week, she would have sung “Somewhere” from West Side Story. Looks like we’re getting Broadway week! Think Scotty will sing something from Annie Get Your Gun or Oklahoma?
