Sky Ferreira Prepares To Test New “Sex Rules”

Ever since we first heard Sky Ferreira‘s delicate, soulful cover of Miike Snow‘s “Animal”, we knew she had a talent for defying pop convention. And that’s why we’re stoked to hear that the jaw-dropping teen artist is finally releasing a real-live recording, the As If EP. We’re not even bummed that it excludes her synthy early hits like “17” or her recent “One”. Instead, she’s headed in a bold new direction with the shimmery new jam “Sex Rules”. Listen (and enjoy the biting lyrics) below.

Credit Sky and veteran pop songwriter Billy Steinberg with crafting a hard-to-resist tune that fuses 80s synths, a crackling beat and Sky’s left-of-center style. (And with savvy lyrics that poke at the same sort of hypocrisy that Lady Gaga has recently addressed).

Will this be the tune that helps Sky break further into the mainstream? It just might be — it’s also the official theme for Calvin Klein’s new CK One ad campaign, which will feature Sky and electro songstress Cassie (whose own album has suffered from long delays too). Watch the flirty teaser below.
