Katy Perry may be lent her name (and her cupcake trampoline) to a serious cause, but that doesn’t mean she’s lost her sense of humor. The tattooed pop superstar, who has thrown the occasional Rihanna or Willow Smith cover as she zips around the world on her California Dreams concert tour, took her tributes a step further today in Melbourne, Australia, where she whipped out a gentle, acoustic rendition of Rebecca Black’s “Friday” for an audience of we-so-excited fans. (Actually, Katy may indirectly raise even more money for Japan). Jump below (aka afterwards) to see the colorful Teenage Dream-er honor the weekend.

Katy’s affected seriousness reminds us a little of Alanis Morissette’s famous rendition of “My Humps”. How does she keep a straight face?

Rebecca Black’s already famous, but the crowd response to Katy’s intro alone underscores just how big a worldwide phenomenon “Friday” became. Now all Ms. Black needs to do is record some new music.
