Well, we certainly weren’t expecting this. On his third single from Tha Carter IV, the minimalist R&B track “How To Love”, Lil Wayne puts on his best lovelorn purr as he sings about matters of the heart over an acoustic guitar. Is someone playing a joke on us? Listen below.

Is this the same man who vowed to drop the world on my mother-effing head? This is a serious departure from most of what we’ve heard from Wayne over the years. And, dare we say, we’re genuinely enjoying this sweet song and are impressed that the “6 Foot 7 Foot” rhyme-spitter could pull it off. Hey, if someone like happy-go-lucky crooner Matthew Morrison can get away with rapping on a semi-regular basis, then Weezy should be allowed to soften up for one song.
