29.3 million, that’s how many people tuned in last night to watch as Scotty McCreery was named America’s newest Idol. If that number seems high to you, it’s because it is — a whole 21 percent higher than Season 9’s finale (and Simon Cowell’s farewell show). Was it the slew of star-studded performances or perhaps simply that AI has finally found it’s perfect blend of judges — seeing as the overall season’s ratings are up five percent? Whatever the reason, it doesn’t seem like fans missed their tight shirt-wearing snarky Brit, what will that mean for American X Factor viewership this fall?
