Diddy, Lupe Fiasco and Dr. Dre’s favorite hook-making gal Skylar Grey is broadening her horizons past writing and singing the chorus on rap songs. The singer-songwriter, who also penned Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love The Way You Lie”, is planning to step into the spotlight herself with the release of her debut album this Fall, and you can preview her buzz single “Dance Without You” below.

The video, uploaded on Skylar’s official site, opens with her singing the chorus to “Coming Home”, “I Need A Doctor” and “Love The Way You Lie” before launching into the eerie, drum-smacking “Dance Without You”.

This one seems promising, thanks in part to producer Alex Da Kid, whom, you may recall, produced every aforementioned track Skylar has worked on. It’s still up in the air whether Skylar — born Holly Hafferman — will reach be able to successfully transition from hook-making songwriter to a charttopping household name in her own right like Bruno Mars, but we won’t be surprised if that comes to pass.

The full-length “Dance Without You” will premiere this Tuesday.
