Gym Class Heroes have never observed borders between musical styles, and why should they start now? Just because frontman Travie McCoy scored one of the summer anthems of 2010 with the pop juggernaut that was “Billionaire”? Not likely. A year (almost to the day) after McCoy dropped his solo album Lazarus, the pop/hip-hop collagists are back with a new LP of their own, The Papercut Chronicles II. We’re proud to premiere Gym Class Heroes’ first new single, “Stereo Hearts”, featuring Maroon 5 singer and The Voice coach Adam Levine on the hook. Listen below!

“The last girl that left me left a couple cracks / I used to used to used to used to, now I’m over that / Cause holding grudges over love is ancient artifacts,” raps Travie (or is it back to Travis now?) while the charitableLevine comes in with the chorus: “This melody was meant for you, just sing along to my stereo.” We guess this means McCoy has let go of any bitter feelings toward his ex Katy Perry for blasting him in a song?

“Stereo Hearts” is a head-nodding jam; the summery melody glides over dark, menacing synths to add up to an instantly memorable signal that Gym Class is back in session. The track, a genre-bender produced by Benny Blanco, is the lead single from the group’s fifth studio album, whose title nods to their 2005 breakout, The Papercut Chronicles. “All I got to say is it’s definitely going back to the essence of Gym Class Heroes, which is four dudes sitting in a room, vibing off each other and making organic, dark metal,” McCoy told MTV about the band’s new material in December 2009.
