James Durbin Covers Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)”

American Idol Season 10’s Top 4 — Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart and James Durbin, in case your memory of the past season of Idol has already faded — are releasing EPs, featuring some of the more noteworthy numbers they tackled on the show. Though in the case of heavy metal lover James Durbin, his 5-track EP comes with a unreleased gem — a studio recording of the Durbin performing Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)” (aka: everyone’s graduation song). Listen to James take it down a notch on his cover of the pop-punk band’s tune below.

Since James was eliminated during the Top 4, we’re assuming had he moved forward, he would have performed this song as part of Judges’ Choice week. It’s a decent cover, though fairly by-the numbers, and we’re not sure it would have impressed much on its own on the Idol stage. Still, James sounds pretty great in the studio.
