Jill Scott Shines The Light Of The Sun On The Top Of The Album Chart

Billboard cover girl Jill Scott demonstrates her solar power by bumping Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″‘s Hell: The Sequel down from the #1 position on the publication’s Top 200 roundup. The recent BET Awards performer‘s The Light Of The Sun, which moved 135,000 copies in its first week, is the first of her four studio LPs to top the album chart. Hell: The Sequel has now dropped to #6. Chart queen Adele holds steady at #3 with 21 (101,000), which leaves Kanye West favorites Bon Iver room to debut in the runner-up position with their self-titled second full-length set. Bon Iver’s 2008 debut For Emma, Forever Ago peaked at #64 on the Top 200, while the Justin Vernon-fronted band’s Blood Bank EP hit #16 the following year.

Other new entries in the Top 10 include country crooner Justin Moore’s sophomore album Outlaws Like Me (#5, 65,000), Pitbull’s guest vocalist-packed Planet Pit (#7, 55,000) and Weird Al Yankovic’s first offering in five years Alpocolypse (#9, 44,000).

Given that Pitbull’s Ne-Yo and Nayer collab “Give Me Everything” has been flying so high in the charts — it’s been lodged at #2 on the Hot 100 for the past month — we would have expected his album to have a better opening week. We certainly didn’t think 11-year-old Jackie Evancho would be trumping him with her two-week-old Dream With Me (#4, 77,000).
