TMZ first reported that 34-year-old “I Don’t Want To Be” crooner Gavin DeGraw was “viciously assaulted by multiple attackers” in New York City late Sunday night, and now law officials and a DeGraw representative have confirmed the attack. The singer, who is originally from South Fallsburgh, NY and now lives in NYC, is currently under observation at Manhattan’s Bellevue Hospital Center. “Gavin DeGraw was assaulted late Sunday night and taken to the emergency room at Bellevue Hospital by ambulance. He is currently under observation,” said DeGraw’s rep in a statement.

It has now been confirmed that the singer suffered a broken nose and cuts to his face during the assault. Reuters reports that New York police spokesman Lieutenant John Grimpel said it was not clear what led to the attack in the city’s East Village, or how many individuals assaulted DeGraw. He added that the identities of the singer’s attackers remain unknown.

Gavin is currently touring with Maroon 5, who pulled into New York last week for a Friday morning Today Show Summer Concert Series performance, and Train. The artists were all scheduled to appear a gig at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY on Tuesday (August 9) night, but the local Fox affiliate has reported that DeGraw’s appearance at the show has been canceled.

“Please send your love to @gavindegraw tonight,” Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine tweeted yesterday. “We love you buddy. Get well and get back out here!”

DeGraw’s fourth studio album Sweeter is due out September 20 via J Records.
