How’s this for a change of pace – instead of his usual routine of continuously pushing back his album release, Lil Wayne will drop his Tha Carter IV earlier than expected. The rapper’s new LP will be released on digital outfits at midnight following this Sunday’s 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

Lil Wayne will be performing at the VMAs on Sunday August 28, and in a move reminiscent of Kanye West and Jay-Z’s tactic of releasing Watch The Throne, will make his album available online following the show.

“I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea,” Wayne said in a statement. “I hope that I can open the door for others.”

Of course, the physical album will be out in stores later that day. But when it comes to new Weezy tunes, waiting an additional nine hours for a music store to open can be torture!
