With the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards now in the rear view mirror, we’re able to pinpoint several watercooler moments that the event offered up. That said, our readers were divided on how they felt about the show overall, and they certainly seemed to have a love or hate attitude toward the omnipresence of Lady Gaga’s male alter ego Jo Calderone during the whole two-and-a-half hours. Read what the comments that came in about the VMAs below!

:: Russ longed for the days of yore on 2011 MTV Video Music Awards: Live Blog Coverage: “This is the worst MTV awards ever. Did they even get a budget for this? Bring back the old days…this is a total joke.”

:: Justin M. was equally dissatisfied: “Adele’s beautiful and emotional performance and Beyonce’s high energy performance were the ONLY redeeming things in the entire show. Don’t even get me started on ‘Joe Calderone.’ Gaga is trying too hard, and is just humiliating herself and losing fans.”

:: Jeremyth Carcamo was all about the Femme Fatale on 2011 VMAs: Most Watched Ever: “I only watched for the Britney Spears tribute even though it wasn’t a good enough tribute, the Awards were kind of tepid.”

:: Danny couldn’t help comparing two of pop’s biggest queens: “I didn’t know Britney was so much taller than Gaga. She’s quite a shorty.”

:: Dustin Farmer was hardly over the moon (man) on Review Revue: The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards: “MTV needs to trim the fat. I feel like I only saw 4 awards go out. Jessie J was awkward. Gaga was (as much as it hurts me to say) awkward as well. Beyonce, Adele, and Bruno Mars were amazing. I really wanted the Britney Spears tribute to be over the top and well thought out, instead it was a let down. Someone should be fired.”

:: MIA wasn’t about to miss out on chipping in two cents: “A huge let down. Too many commercials, not enough awards, and way too much of Lady Gaga’s alter ego. It was a great way to start the show, but after that, bring her back as the LADY GAGA she is. Also, to end with Lil Wayne was an insult to all artists. He is disgusting. He has no talent and is very hard to watch. On a positive note, the Amy Winehouse tribute was incredible and Beyonce, Adele, and Bruno Mars gave outstanding performances.”

:: James felt that the whole thing was simply monstrous: “I was very disapointed with the Britney Spears Tribute!! It was so poorly produced and it should have been just as over the top as her Iconic performances!! I think MTV should do a 2 hour tribute special to Britney to make up for that god awful tribute!! And didnt it seem like Lady Gaga was totally hogging the stage when Britney recieved the award??”

:: Cindy left no stone unturned: “I liked Lady Gaga back when she came out with “Just Dance” now, I feel she tries to hard to be different. Her performance was off and she looked drunked the enitre time. Jay-Z and Kanye West’s performance was great! Adele was a little shaky but I liked her performance. Chris Brown’s performance I liked, but only because he incorporated Wu-Tang Clan and Nirvana. I thought Beyonce’s performance was cute. The Amy Winehouse tribute was very good. Lil Wayne’s performance was a waste of time, I couldn’t understand a word he was saying.”
