J. Cole currently has the country’s top album, though his Cole World: The Sideline Story is expected to get bumped off the #1 position on the Top 200 chart by Scotty McCreery’s One Clear Day next week. Nevertheless, the promo must go on, and the Roc Nation rapper appeared in a segment on Last Call With Carson Daly where he talked about his humble beginnings, when he had his less-than-fruitful first meeting with his boss Jay-Z five years ago. Cole also went on to discuss his opening slot on Rihanna’s LOUD Tour over the summer. “Learning how to perform in front of that many people and that diverse of a crowd did a lot for my own show,” he explained.

Finally, the MC made a pitch to viewers on why they should pick up his debut LP: “You should buy my album because — I feel like a politician saying this — it’s for the culture, overall. And also because the album is incredible.”
