T-Pain Is “Drowning” In Touching New Video

Yes, we used the word “touching” in reference to a T-Pain song. And, excuse us while we get our ears checked, because after listening to “Drowning”, it appears as if the rapper — who actually sings here on this piano-and-string-laden ballad — is using his real voice. Perhaps he finally took Jay-Z’s “D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tune)” to heart? Watch the simple, dark video for T-Pain’s latest single off fourth album Revolver (out December 6) below. Perhaps taking a cue from Beyonce and Jessie J — two singers who’ve been churning out music video after music video lately — “Drowing” is Pain’s second video in less than a month. (He previously offered up the visual for the Lily Allen-sampling “5 O’Clock” a few weeks back.)

In the shadowy clip, the bespectacled Florida MC sits at a piano and bares his heart and soul (via some fairly impressive, non-tampered-with vocals). “If I make it out we should talk about how you left me / just how you left me,” T-Pain sings on “Drowning”.

Can you imagine if the Grammy winner served up a whole album like this? We’d, for one be down.

Meanwhile, is anyone else getting a slight P.M. Dawn “I’d Die Without You” vibe from “Drowning”. (For the record, the former contains the lyric “now I’m underwater and I’m drowning”.)
