This year, the female voices of pop, rock and R&B are going to be belting with even more emotion than usual, as VH1 is scheduled to air VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul on Monday, December 19 at 9 p.m. The lineup so far includes Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott, Florence + The Machine, Kelly Clarkson and Jessie J, and these powerhouses will be offering up soul classics at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom while accompanied by The Roots. The 2012 Divas special aims to pay tribute to the great “cities of soul” like Chicago, Detroit, London, Memphis and Philadelphia.

“This year’s telecast will showcase the vast impact soul music has had on the 21st century’s music and pop culture landscape as our talented and diverse lineup will attest,” said Lee Rolontz, VH1’s EVP, Original Music Production & Development, in a press release. “This year’s Divas offers a modern twist on soul music, all while tipping its hat to the legacy of key cities that created this musical heritage.”

VH1 Divas is just one of the high-profile gigs Stronger songstress Kelly Clarkson has lined up toward the end of the year. She’ll also be performing at the American Music Awards on November 20.
