Green Day got into the Halloween spirit a few days early by playing a surprise gig at the 300-person capacity Studio at Webster Hall, with $20 tickets going on sale less than 24 hours before the show. (Surprise! It sold out instantly.) The punk-pop group performed in costume, with frontman Billie Joe Armstrong decked out as Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Video and details from the frighteningly awesome show below.

Green Day bookended their two-hour set with their own take on “Monster Mash”, and powered through songs from Dookie to 21st Century Breakdown, even throwing a number from their Foxboro Hot Tubs side project. They performed a few covers as well, including Elvis Presley’s “Blue Moon Of Kentucky” and The Misfits’ “Hybrid Moments”, which was reportedly performed three separate times for cameras filming a Green Day documentary.

About half the show consisted of the band premiering new material, including songs called “Make Out Party” and “Let Yourself Go.” The Village Voice describes the new songs as sounding “like outtakes from Warning.”

Check out some footage from the show below — and we guess get excited for an upcoming Green Day documentary, too.
