NSYNC’s “Pop”: At Your Request

We may be counting down the moments till we can hop on the Turkey Train to Gravytown this Thursday, but that doesn’t mean we’ve lost sight of our season-of-giving video project, At Your Request. And what better way to get this Thanksgiving week popping than by fulfilling another Twitter-submitted song demand. Below enjoy this throwback to a time when boy bands still walked (and ruled) the earth, and when it seemed Justin Timberlake would make music forever.

Today’s request comes by way of Real Housewives Of New Jersey star @ashleeholmes, who ordered up the 2001 hit “Pop” from *NSYNC’s final album, Celebrity. In a Billboard interview just before the album’s release, Justin’s frustrations with industry perception seemed to hint at the pop-star-turned-actor‘s future solo career: “The truth is that it can be tiresome to be continually blasted by critics because we don’t fit their preconceived notion of what a ‘credible’ group is. I wonder if they listen to our music before venturing an opinion.” To be fair, JT, it would be difficult to get more bubblegum than a boy band singing a song titled after their own genre of music.

We’ll catch you tomorrow for another song breakdown. And while we try to decide if it’s appropriate to wear pajama jeans to Thanksgiving dinner, shoot us over your pop song requests. (They can be old or new, chart-toppers or B-sides. If you love it, so do we!) Hit us up on Twitter or Facebook — you can even comment below. Just be sure your responses include the artist’s name, track title and your reason for why it’s the tops.
