Drake Takes ‘Care’ To #1 On Album Chart

While the Rihanna vs. Nickelback battle for next week’s chart is already heating up, let’s not forget about the current Top 200. Drake didn’t quite achieve that figure of 675,000 copies that was predicted for Take Care‘s first-week sales. Still, his sophomore LP easily enters the #1 position after moving 631,000 — enough to give him the third-best sales week for an album in 2011 so far, behind Lady Gaga’s Born This Way (1.1 million) and Lil Wayne’s Tha Carver IV (964,000). Looking elsewhere, Billboard reports that a noteworthy Michael Jackson chart record has been broken. With Adele’s best seller 21 moving up from #5 to #3 (113,000), it gives the recovering UK singer a 39th consecutive week in the Top 5 — the most weeks in the Top 200’s history. 21 now surpasses the 38 week’s Jackson’s 1987 album Bad spent in the Top 5.

Other new entries in the Top 10 include Andrea Bocelli’s live LP Concerto: One Night In Central Park at #4 (87,000) and the Glee cast’s second Christmas album at #6 (71,000).

And speaking of the holidays, Santa came early for Mariah Carey this year, as covers of her modern-day seasonal classic “All I Want For Christmas is You” appears on Michael Buble’s Christmas (#2), Justin Bieber’s Under The Mistletoe (#5) and Glee, The Music: The Christmas Album, Volume 2 (#6).

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for last week’s chart-topping album, Mac Miller’s Blue Slide Park, it slid all the way down from #1 to #24.
