The story of Lady Gaga’s 13-minute “Marry The Night” video is either totally clear (Gaga suffers a setback, and challenges herself to rise again) or totally puzzling (why is she in a mental ward? What’s up with that ginormous hat?!). For those who want a bit more insight into the pop star’s psychosis of what inspired her while creating the clip, Gaga sat down with E!’s Jason Kennedy to discuss her directorial effort. Head below to hear Gaga try to explain her video, and do your best to wade through the pretension.

Part of the video takes place in her New York apartment, which was a recreation of the actual apartment she lived in at the start of her career. In the scene, Gaga is topless, rolling around on her bed, when she gets the call that she has been dropped from her label. (In real life, Gaga was dropped from Def Jam in 2006 after only being on their roster for three months. She would be signed to Interscope the following year.)

“It was one of the worst days of my life and it happened quite quickly,” she says. ” But in my mind, when I think back on that period of my life, it all happened very slow.”

Kennedy asks why Gaga decided to go naked in the clip, and she responds that she was just pulling from her real life experiences. “I was naked in real life when it happened,” she says. “That’s probably the most honest part of the video, of anything I’ve ever done. My directorial decision was to just let them fucking roll the cameras.”

“I wonder if I will actually release that scene in its entirety,” she adds. “It’s about 30 minutes long.”

Are you guys ready to see Mama Monster go crazy for a full half hour? It would certainly be more entertaining than watching Whitney.
