Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” Video: Watch The Behind-The-Scenes

The song’s superfluous remix might not be a fan favorite, but Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” video still leaves a lump in our throat. And now you can see how Katy’s transformation from a young painter filled with hope to an old woman filled with regret came to be in the video’s Behind-The-Scenes. (We also get a peek at how they rigged up a black Mustang to hurl itself off a cliff in one take.) Watch MTV’s 20-minute Making-Of below.

“The story is about pride kind of getting in the way in what she truly wanted to say, didn’t get out,” says the video’s director, Floria Sigismondi. “And she’s been thinking about it for the rest of her life.”

Some key highlights of the BTS: The crew applying Katy’s mascara-smeared tears by hand; the singer joking around with the actor who plays her husband in the future; Katy goofing around with Diego Luna while talking in an exaggerated Southern accent.
