Katharine McPhee Performs Ryan Tedder-Produced “Touch Me” In ‘Smash’ Promo

Though NBC’s new music-based show Smash centers around the world of Broadway and has songs penned by actual Broadway composers, don’t expect just to hear the characters only sing showtunes. In this new promo, Katharine McPhee (who recently sat down with us for a Career Quiz) sings a club-ready tune called “Touch Me”, written and produced by Top 40 regular Ryan Tedder. Watch Kat perform the song while still in bed (you’ll see what we mean) below.

The other music-based TV show on the tube, Glee, has also turned to trustworthy pop hitmakers to pen original tunes for their characters to sing, like the Max Martin-produced “Loser Like Me” (which peaked at #6 on the Hot 100). We’ll see if “Touch Me” has the same kind of success on the charts once it’s inevitably released as a single.

Smash premieres on NBC Monday February 6. The pilot episode is currently available to watch as a free download on iTunes. We recommend you do so. It’s quite good.
