Grammy Awards 2012: We Pick Song Of The Year

We’ve shared our 2012 Grammy predictions for Best New Artist and all the Pop categories, and today it’s time to move on to one of the big ones – Song Of The Year. Last year, Lady Antebellum won this category (as well as Record Of The Year) for “Need You Now”. Is Adele destined to land the same one-two punch with “Rolling In The Deep”? Or will one of the other nominees score an upset? Hop below for our thoughts — and let your voice be heard in our Grammy poll!

SONG OF THE YEAR NOMINEES Kanye West, “All of the Lights” Mumford & Sons, “The Cave” Bruno Mars, “Grenade” Bon Iver, “Holocene” Adele, “Rolling in the Deep”

THOUGHTS ON THE NOMINEES: Out of the lot, Kanye West’s “All Of The Lights” is the only tune not also in the running for Record Of The Year. Though “AOTL” is one of Yeezy’s standout tracks on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, when is the last time a rap song won Song Of The Year? Does 1989’s “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” count? (No, it doesn’t.)

Mumford & Sons’ joyous “The Cave” and Bon Iver’s gentle “Holocene” are two beautifully written songs, and we couldn’t agree more with Bruno Mars’ heartwrenching “Grenade” being included here. Perhaps in another year, any one of those melodies could snag Song Of The Year. But this year has Adele. And no single made a bigger impression in 2011 than “Rolling In The Deep”, which is still completely enjoyable even when turned into a song about the Super Bowl.

WILL WIN: This will be just one of the many categories where you can expect Adele to prevail.

SHOULD WIN: “Rolling In The Deep” was a classic the moment we heard it. And most people seem to agree, as the song was #1 on the Hot 100 for seven weeks, and was the best-selling single of 2011. Even if you think the song is overplayed, we bet you still can’t stop yourself from shouting, “We could have had it AAAAAAAALL!” when the chorus kicks in.

Now vote for who you think will win:
