‘American Idol’: Wildcard Sing-Off Decides Season 11 Top 13

Pretty good job, America! Either everyone of you read our recaps over the past two nights to inform your voting choices this week, or the divide between who’s got the chops and who doesn’t has been so black-and-white that there was no question who was making it to the Top 10. Of course, there were those pesky three wildcard slots left for the judges to decide, and Ryan Seacrest did his best to drag the whole thing out for as long as he possibly could. If you didn’t manage to stay awake (we did), the American Idol Season 11 Top 13 contestants are…

Congrats, kids! We genuinely agree that you all deserve to be there.

Once the Top 10 were established, the judges start to hand out second chances. Jen Hirsch, Jeremy Rosado, Brielle Von Hugel, Deandre Brackensick, Erika Van Pelt and — ugh — Reed Grimm spent the remaining 40 minutes of the show singing for their lives. And the wildcard slot winners are…

Erika Van Pelt (Randy’s pick). Someone needs to start helping Erika with her sartorial selections, because the purple prom dress she wore on results night did her no favors. She puts her husky vocals on Lady Gaga’s “Edge Of Glory”, and Randy loves every moment of it.

Deandre Brackensick (Steven’s Pick). Letting loose that massive pile of curls, Deandre sang “Georgia On My Mind”. He forced his range on the song, taking every possible opportunity to dance between octaves — sometimes at the loss of vocal control. Still, it was enough.

Jeremy Rosado (JLo’s Pick). Of course JLo was putting Jeremy through! She was teary-eyed during his performance of Carrie Underwood’s “I Know You Won’t”. Jeremy broke down in tears, too, by the end of the song. When Jennifer revealed she was saving him the trip back home, he headed to the judges’ table for a big round of sincere hugs. Aww.

Next Week: The American Idol stylists finally get their hands on the contestants. (You’re welcome, Erika.) The guys will sing from Stevie Wonder’s songbook, and the ladies pay tribute to the late Whitney Houston.

Did the judges make the right call by saving Erika, Deandre and Jeremy? Sound off in the comments, or on Twitter and Facebook.
