Kendrick Lamar is prepping the release of his major label debut Good Kid In A Mad City, which will be released on Dr. Dre’s Aftermath imprint. Lucky for Lamar, the boss likes his stuff so much, he collaborated with him on his lead single, “The Recipe.” In the chill, breezy tune, the two Compton natives declare that people from all across the globe come to Los Angeles for “the women, weed, and weather” (which happened to be the former title of the song). Right out of Snoop’s cookbook. Catch Lamar’s impressive lead single below.

Lamar goes way back with Dr. Dre — like, really far back. During a recent interview with Carson Daly, the rapper recalled the time his father took him to see a music video being filmed with Tupac and Dre in his neighborhood.

“That was huge because these are people that we consider icons in the ghetto,” said Kendrick. “I was putting out that energy in the universe so much to the day where I’m actually in the studio with Snoop and Dre.”

Both Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre will appear later this month at Coachella — we won’t be surprised if a live collaboration during either artist’s set takes place during the fest.
