As if he doesn’t have enough on his plate already with the American Idol hosting gig, news coverage on E!, his production company and syndicated KIIS-FM radio show, Ryan Seacrest has now signed up to be part of the team at NBC. While being interviewed on Today, Seacrest, who says he tries to be a “good conduit to pop culture,” told host Matt Lauer, “I’ve worked with the E! network for years, and NBC Universal and E! are the same family. And so the plan is for me to join the NBC family and continue to have a role at the E! network.” Watch the hosts playfully joke (we think) about Ryan taking Matt’s job on Today below. Ryan went on to add that his first job for the network will be to join the prime time news team covering this summer’s Olympic games in London.

The two carried on joking about whether or not Seacrest will be joining the Today Show, and Lauer finally said, “Ryan and I are friendly. We have talked about this. We’ve joked about this. There is no tension here.”

But don’t worry, American Idol fans — the blond-haired host isn’t leaving behind his bread and butter anytime soon. “I plan to stay there,” Seacrest said. “I think I’ll have an official announcement very, very soon, but I expect to be on that show.”

What do you think of Ryan’s big announcement? Is the show host spreading himself too thin?
