Maroon 5 have officially dialed up a hit with their Wiz Khalifa pair-up “Payphone”. The sugary pop song sold a whopping 493,000 digital downloads in its first week — enough for it to land at #3 on the Hot 100, just behind Gotye and Kimbra‘s “Somebody That I Used To Know” (which is #1 for a second week) and fun. and Janelle Monae‘s former chart-topper “We Are Young”. Billboard notes that Maroon 5 now have the distinction of racking up the best sales week for a single by a group, a feat previously achieved by the Black Eyes Peas with “Boom Boom Pow” back in 2009. As for the overall artist with the highest sales week for a single, that title belongs to Flo Rida, whose Ke$ha-featuring “Right Round” moved 636,000 downloads in late February 2009. All we can think is, damn, that’s a lot of quarters that went toward “Payphone”. Ba-zingggg!
