MTV Movie Awards: It’s LMFAO Vs. The Awesome “A Real Hero” From ‘Drive’
The MTV Movie Awards nominees have been announced, and you can throw your bouquets in the air with joy, Bridesmaids fans — the runaway hit chick flick from last summer is up for pretty much everything (Best Movie, Best Cast, Best Comedic Performance, Best Female Performance — hell, it might even be up for Best Male Performance, too, but we’re too tired of clicking around to check).
One category we do have our eye on, however, is Best Music. LMFAO‘s “Party Rock Anthem” actually made its way onto a soundtrack at some point — 21 Jump Street. Kind of a stretch of a nomination, if you ask us, given that the song was released 14 months before the movie hit theaters. The song we’d really like to see win is College’s “A Real Hero”, which features Electric Youth and was the highlight of the Drive soundtrack.
If you saw Drive, then surely you’ll remember slow-burning electro jam “A Real Hero”. It played when Ryan Gosling wowed an apparently easily-impressed Carrie Mulligan by speeding through the dried-up reservoir’s of Los Angeles, and then again during the movie’s memorable ending, as the camera faded to black and the credits began to roll.
Drive also is also up for Best Gut-Wrenching Performance and Best Male Performance (there — we finally looked) at this year’s MTV Movie Awards, which is nice, given that the Nicolas Winding Refn-directed film was snubbed by the Oscars.
And of course, there are other nominees up for Best Music — Figurine’s “Impossible” from Like Crazy, the Steve Aoki remix of Kid Cudi‘s “Pursuit Of Happiness” from Project X and The Chemical Brothers’ “The Devil Is In The Details” from Hanna.
But we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a win for College and featured singer(s) Electric Youth. At the very least, MTV should give them the opportunity to perform, if only so we can see what these dreamy, synthy artists look like on a stage.
Besides, party rock has been in the house for way too long. Time to kick them out and change the locks.
