Nicki Minaj Gets Extra Flak From Hot 97 DJs Peter Rosenberg & Funkmaster Flex

If Nicki Minaj is expecting an apology from New York Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg following yesterday’s Summer Jam fracas, wherein the Young Money rapstress pulled out of her appearance after the morning personality trashed her hit “Starships”, she’ll be waiting a long time. Rosenberg hit this air this morning full of fight, and showed no signs of backing down from his comments.

Furthermore, video from yesterday’s event has surfaced showing fellow Hot 97 DJ Funk Flex taking verbal jabs at Minaj during his set.

“Hey, I went out there, I was hosting, I was in the zone of doing real hip hop,” Rosenberg said on-air this morning. “I just said what came to mind and everyone made a big deal about it… Now the Barbz are all hitting me and asking me to apologize. There’s a get-me-to-apologize movement, to which I can say… I’m absolutely not apologizing because I didn’t do anything wrong.”

The drama began on stage at Summer Jam yesterday when Rosenberg stated the following a few hours before Minaj’s scheduled performance: “I know there are some chicks in here waiting to sing along with ‘Starships’ later. I’m not talking to y’all now. Fuck that bullshit. I’m here to talk about real hip hop shit.”

Nicki’s Young Money label boss Lil Wayne then tweeted the following in response: “Young Money ain’t doing summer jam.”

Rosenberg continued on the air this morning: “I said the same thing I’ve been saying — let’s keep it real, Nicki — I have been saying this for six months. I’m not gonna change my stance ’cause I’m at Summer Jam… I have extended the olive branch to Nicki Minaj. I have tweeted her many times. I’ve met with management. I’ve done everything I can to try to make it cool so that we could have a conversation about music. It didn’t work out.”

The DJ added that he was “disappointed” that Minaj didn’t make it onto the stage, but added that she should have “played the game.”

“This is hip hop,” Rosenberg said. “She should have got on that stage and made a movie.”

Meanwhile, the Hot 97 personality’s colleague Funkmaster Flex performed an extra-long DJ set yesterday to make up for Nicki’s absence, during which he shouted into the mic, “We ain’t fuckin’ with commercial rappers no more!”

One person involved with Summer Jam who did come to Nicki’s defense was singer Lauryn Hill, who was at first reported to have been lined up as a guest performer during Nicki’s scheduled set

Below is Hill’s open letter following the Summer Jam incident:

No disrespect to Nicki, but I need to clear up an inaccuracy. I was not scheduled to be a special guest on her set at Summer Jam, I was invited by Nas to perform with him. I don’t have details on exactly what transpired between the station and the artists, but I do support artists standing by their beliefs, and walking with integrity. We have to find a better way to commercially exploit music, while giving artists their proper respect. This cannot be done while taking their contributions for granted, or trying to control the scope of their growth and power through threats and fear tactics. We can do better than this, there is a better way, or else ‘we’ (the proverbial we) find ourselves in danger of being hypocrites!!!
