Justin Bieber‘s performance at the legendary Apollo Theater last night (June 18) was a big deal for the pop star, as the Harlem venue has hosted performances by some of the biggest names in music, including his hero Michael Jackson. “A lot of emotions in the building,” he tweeted before the show. “This one is special. This one is for MJ.”

Bieber brought it to the Apollo stage, performing his old hits, as well as songs off his new album Believe (out today). Unfortunately, the show was interrupted by a power outage, leaving Bieber to wing it and finish the show without the help of most of his instruments. “He walks out, he literally quiets the crowd, and he says, ‘I’m sorry the power is out… [but] you guys have always had my back. I’m going to sing ‘Boyfriend’ and you’re going to sing it back to me,'” recounts his manager Scooter Braun.
