Katy Perry Talks ‘Part Of Me’ And Her “Dark Times” In Hollywood On ‘The Tonight Show’

We’re used to hearing Katy Perry sing when she appears on late night TV talk shows, but last night (June 21) on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, the pop star was able to gab with the host about all sorts of things. A very peppy Perry discussed her family (including her father who went from taking LSD in the 70s to becoming a preacher, and her sassy 91-year-old grandma who she takes to awards shows) and the ways she acted out as a child (piercing her own nose, sneaking into Radiohead concerts when she was 13).

The main point of her appearance was, of course, to promote her concert documentary Katy Perry: Part Of Me (released July 5), and since the flick is in 3-D, she even brought some heart-shaped 3-D glasses for her and Jay to wear. Adorable!

Katy touches on her “dark times” in Hollywood as her career was just starting off — and how she thought of Los Angeles during her youth as “a big old evil place” — but ultimately, all those failures and disappointments built character.

With Part Of Me, Perry says she wanted to let people in on what was “underneath the hood… I wanted to show people how much hard work it takes.”

Though Katy’s film is sure to give people a fun time at the movies, she still wanted to give an honest look at her life and included some darker moments from her year on the road. “I think that people will relate to the movie even more seeing me at my lowest point and now at my highest point.”

And they’ll be able to see all those low moments in multiple dimensions!
