After debuting her new low-key love song “Not Even A King” in late April, Alicia Keys is revving things up with one of the most upbeat songs she’s ever released. With “New Day”, a track off the follow-up to her 2009 release The Element Of Freedom, Keys sings over a buzzing beat, marching band drumming and bright piano melodies, inspiring everyone to not give up or let chances pass you by. Take a listen below.

Alicia Keys – “New Day”

“So, what are doing for the summer??” Keys asked fans on Twitter Tuesday night. “Yes! I’ll be putting the finishing touches on this journey I’m dying to share with you!!!”

Keys has been working on her new album for over eight months, and in a video she posted earlier this week, she revealed that the album’s content is heavily inspired by her becoming a mother (to her adorable son Egypt) and a wife (to producer/rapper Swizz Beatz).

“Everything is new, from being married and having a baby, and what that’s done for me in just giving me a sense of real stability, real connection, grounding, reason, and purpose,” she says in the video, describing herself as “a whole new person.”

She continues: “So much of the music that you’re going to hear is talking about what that feels like, what we’re all going through, all of us… That empowerment, that freedom is definitely something that’s reflected in this album.”
