In addition to looking forward to the arrival of her first offspring, Adele can also celebrate the fact that, for the second time, 21 is the best-selling LP halfway through the year. Her sophomore album has moved 3.6 million copies so far in 2012, bringing its grand total to nearly 10 million copies since its release in February 2011.

Meanwhile, Gotye claims the year’s top single to-date with his Kimbra pair-up “Somebody That I Used To Know”, which stands at 5.50 million digital copies sold so far. Head below to see who else ranked high on Billboard‘s mid-year album and digital songs charts.

One thing is apparent — Adele is making out like a bandit with album sales, but she’s about the only one. Other than 21, no other LP has sold more than a million copies so far in 2012. Lionel Richie‘s Tuskegee, which stands at 912,000, is the closest. Billboard notes that this marks the first time only one album has sold more than a million halfway through the year since SoundScan began tracking sales data in 1991.

Over on the Digital Songs tally, the three most recent Hot 100 chart-toppers — Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Call Me Maybe”, Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” and fun.‘s “We Are Young” — also make up the top three positions on the mid-year chart. Collectively, that triumvirate of pop tunes has racked up nearly 15 million in paid downloads alone.
