Madonna may love her controversy, but she’s not out to shock and offend all the time. Which is why, when a Catholic group raised protest that she’d be performing on the 68th anniversary of the World War II uprising against Nazis in Warsaw, Madge decided she’d honor the event.

The 1944 Warsaw Uprising lasted for 63 days and resulted in an estimated 150,000-200,000 civilian deaths, so it’s no wonder the Material Girl doesn’t want to disrespect Polish fans by treating it lightly.

The August 1 date on her MDNA Tour will now open with a video that commemorates the historical uprising — which will make for a perfect segue into “Girl Gone Wild,” don’t you think?
