This year, Lana Del Rey has drummed up anticipation for select music video premieres either with a video trailer or carefully edited stills. However, her latest off Born to Die, “Summertime Sadness” virtually popped up out of thin air.

In the song, Del Rey vows, “I think I’ll miss you forever / like the stars miss the sun in the morning skies.” But as now seen in its music video these feelings of longing lead to tragedy. Directed by Kyle Newman, the music video flickers through mock found footage of smiles and laughs exchanged between the singer and actress Jaime King (Hart of Dixie), before they each take fatal leaps and find each other in a smoke-machine haze.

Preview images of the “Summertime Sadness” music video originally surfaced in April, just days after Del Rey premiered her music video for “Carmen.” The “Summertime Sadness” video was even slated for a May release, according to Just Jared. Meanwhile, the latest video uploaded to Del Rey’s YouTube page is still “National Anthem.” The Anthony Mandler effort, co-starring A$AP Rocky, debuted three weeks ago.

What do you think of LDR’s latest clip? How does it compare to her Kennedy fairy tale “National Anthem”? Tell us in the comments below, or on Facebook and Twitter.
