Nick Jonas And Pharrell In Talks To Be Next ‘American Idol’ Judges

Ever since Mariah Carey signed on to fill Jennifer Lopez‘s spot on American Idol, we’ve heard hardly any whispers about those other two judges’ seats. But now, former Disney heartthrob Nick Jonas and super-producer Pharrell Williams are in talks to become the newest judges, reports US Weekly. Fox has yet to comment on the story, but if we’re to believe the insider sources, Jonas was recently flown to L.A. for “final meetings” and Pharrell is currently negotiating his contract. We love this idea.

If it all falls into place, this is a great move to reel in a younger audience. Pharrell has been inseparable from the charts for the last decade thanks to his work with the likes of Jay-Z, Britney and JT. Plus, an entire generation of little girls grew up with The Jonas Brothers, and Nick is the youngest one at 19, so they won’t be able to resist. (As a side note, in the Battle of Reality Stars: Jonas Bros. Edition, little brother will clearly come out on top: Kevin’s Married To Jonas on E! and Joe’s stint on Fox’s The Choice can’t really compete with the biggest singing competition show in the land.)

So does this mean our pal Randy Jackson would go the way of JLo and Steven Tyler? Not quite, dog. The plan reportedly calls for Jackson to move into a “mentoring role,” which means he’d be spending a lot more time with Jimmy Iovine picking songs for the contestants. And that also means he’d still have plenty of use for the word “pitchy.”
