London Olympics 2012: Ed Sheeran May Perform With Pink Floyd…Or Not
There are many rumors flying around about just who from the UK pop scene will be performing at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics on August 12. And while rock legends The Who are one of the acts confirmed be on board for the televised concert (titled A Symphony Of British Music), it seems they won’t be taking the stage with “The A Team” crooner Ed Sheeran.
“I’m playing the closing ceremony — which I think is kinda cool right? A lot of people think that I’m doing a song with The Who but I’m not — I’m doing a song with Pink Floyd. I’m doing ‘Wish You Were Here’,” 21-year-old Sheeran told Australia’s Nova radio station, according to the BBC. But not so fast, Ed — because Pink Floyd would beg to differ.
NME quotes a statement issued by the surviving members of rockers Pink Floyd, which reads as follows: “In response to press speculation, Pink Floyd state that the band is NOT performing at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.”
Well, that’s awkward. Other pop luminaries said to be confirmed for A Symphony Of British Music include Take That, Emeli Sande, George Michael and Kaiser Chiefs. Additional acts rumored to be performing are Pet Shop Boys, Jessie J, Annie Lennox and One Direction.
