‘NOW 43’ Compilation Sneaks To Top Of Chart After Slow Release Week

Last week was relatively quiet as far as new album releases are concerned, which allows for the 43rd NOW That’s What I Call Music compilation to debut in the peak position on the Billboard Top 200 after selling 111,000 copies. The latest edition in the long-running series that rounds up current hits includes such recent chart smashes as Maroon 5‘s “Payphone”, Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Call Me Maybe”, Ellie Goulding‘s “Lights” and David Guetta‘s Sia pair-up “Titanium”.

NOW 43 bests the peaks of the last five entries in the series, which all charted at #3 on the Top 200. In fact, you have to go back to February 2011’s NOW 37 to find that last one that reached #1. The series kicked off in the States in October 1998, with its very first compilation containing hits like Spice Girls‘ “Say You’ll Be There”, K-Ci & JoJo‘s “All My Life” and Backstreet Boys‘ “As long As You Love Me”.

Elsewhere, like last week with the Bee Gees‘ 2004 Number Ones collection, Frank Sinatra‘s 2008 Nothing But The Best crashes in at #3 (40,000) after a one-day 99-cent sale at the Amazon MP3 store.

The only other new entries in the Top 10 are Elle Varner‘s debut LP Perfectly Imperfect at #4 (33,000) and country crooner Colt Ford‘s fourth album State Of Independence at #5 (31,000).
