Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake”: Go Behind The Scenes Of Her VMA-Nominated Video

Katy Perry‘s “Wide Awake” video is up for Video Of The Year at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, and now we can take a gander at how this gothic fairytale came to be. In the vid’s behind-the-scenes, the purple-haired pop star takes us on a journey full of metaphors, sparkly outfits, French directors who speak barely any English, and a whole lot — we mean a lot — of special effects.

Though you may have watched “Wide Awake” in only two dimensions, the video was actually filmed in 3-D, same as the movie (Katy Perry: Part Of Me 3-D) it was written for. “We might be on the forefront of something new,” Katy tells the camera. “We probably might just fuck this video up, though.”

Check out Part 1 above, then head below for Part 2.

Head to MTV Buzzworthy to check out Part 3 and Part 4. (There’s a lot of ground to cover on such a big video!) Then jump back to Idolator to let us know if you think Katy’s Prince Charming-punching video deserves to win a VMA for Video Of The Year.
