ZZ Ward & Kendrick Lamar Are “Cryin’ Wolf”: Listen

ZZ Ward‘s new song “Cryin’ Wolf” features Kendrick Lamar and is an exercise in versatility. The Compton rapper can hold his own on a track with Dr. Dre (as we saw earlier) and here he’s ably rapping over ZZ’s seething blues-folk. Likewise, Ward has reinterpreted rap songs by the likes of K-Dot and Tyler, the Creator, but in “Cryin’ Wolf” she has crafted a dusty acoustic rocker that seamlessly works in a rap verse. Featuring a spare hand-clap chorus, the track has the same sonic blueprint as “Blue Eyes Blind,” only the hip-hop and folk pairing is made explicit this time around.

“Cryin’ Wolf” is off ZZ Ward’s debut LP Til The Casket Drops (out October 16), and you can hear the song over at Complex.
