John Lennon‘s widow Yoko Ono has awarded Lady Gaga with the LennonOno Grant For Peace for Gaga’s advocacy work with lesbian, gay and transgender people. The singer is expected to accept the award and a donation from Ono in Iceland on October 9 (which is John Lennon’s birthday).

Ono created the LennonOno grant to promote philanthropic work and awards it to multiple recipients every two years (the imprisoned members of Pussy Riot have also been selected for the honor this year). Speaking about Lady Gaga, Ono said she is “one of the biggest living artists of our time” whose music changed “the mental map of the world.”
